Evita (1996)
Argentina's first lady, Eva Perón was a material girl in the true sense of the word, living a life so perfect, it seemed too good to be true. When she passed away in 1952, she left a nation heartbroken. The hugely popular Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical based on her life finally made it to the big screen with Madonna playing the lead role (Patty LuPone played Eva on stage) and director Alan Parker at the helm.

The film follows the rise of Eva Perón to the level of supreme social and political celebrity in the 1940s that propelled the political success of her husband, Juan Perón (played by Jonathan Pryce). Madonna offers a knockout performance, while Antonio Banderas is perhaps the biggest surprise in the film.
