Rajasthan government withdraws concessions

The Rajasthan government's decision to withdraw the five-year 'Entertainment Tax Holiday' it had earlier announced for new Multiplex Cinema halls in the state has angered theatre owners.

New Multiplex Cinema halls in Rajasthan attracted over Rs 700 crore of investment but owners, who were relying on the tax exemptions, are now unsure of recovering their investments.

The government claims that since many cinema halls in the state shut shop recently, annual revenue from entertainment tax has dipped sharply, making it impossible to grant concessions.
