BJP wants ban on AB

Amitabh Bachchan

Close at the heels of the Congress objecting to film star Amitabh Bachchan attending blood donation camps and distributing artificial limbs in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has asked the election commission to ban such functions alleging that these were being organised by Samajwadi Party in violation of the code of conduct.

BJP state Vice-President Satyadeo Pachauri claimed that these functions were being organised by the Samajwadi Party in which appeals were made in favour of party candidates.

Earlier, AICC General Secretary Ambika Sonia, in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, had said that these functions, organised in the name of NGOs, were used by top leaders of Samajwadi Party - Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh - and sought a ban on them.
