Paanch denied censor certificate again

Paanch Anurag Kashyap's Paanch has once again been denied a certificate by the censor board's revising committee.

Paanch was earlier dismissed by the censor board on grounds that the film glorified violence. Now the director's appeal to the board's revising committee has fallen on deaf ears.

Many filmmakers who have seen Paanch say that there is nothing objectionable in the film.

No one from the censor board was willing to comment on why Anurag Kashyap's film has been refused a censor certificate and for now, it seems that Anurag will have to appeal to the appellate committee of the censor board to get his film released.

Sholay: Great going

Sholay Sholay came in at 37 in the list of the IMDB (International Movie Database) compiled top 50 action films of all time.

Competing against the likes of The Raiders of the Lost Ark and Gladiator, Sholay managed to hold its own and even came in before Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Devdas jinxed?

A fire broke out on September 24 on the sets of Sanjay Bhansali's Devdas. A short circuit in the storage godowns of the Devdas set at Film City triggered off a massive blaze that razed the godowns and everything they contained to ashes.

Director Sanjay Bhansali, who was rehearsing for a song from the film on the floors of another set nearby, was visibly upset. Jackie Shroff, who plays Chunnilal in the film, visited the sets later that night.

Sanjay Bhansali's ambitious Devdas seems to be strangely dogged by accidents. Last year two unit hands lost their lives setting up storm fans. Then there was a minor fire. Only last month, another lightman was electrocuted on the sets in Filmistan. The film's financier Bharat Shah was arrested early this year and has been refused bail.
