Boisterous crowd attacks Mahima at stage show

A boisterous crowd stormed the dais at a dance-and-song live show in Lucknow, on September 22, just as actress Mahima Chaudhry began her performance.

The event was organised by the Hindustan Lever group. As Mahima appeared on stage and waved to the audience, many of the youth, in their inebriated state threw bottles at the stage. The security personnel then thrashed audience members in an effort to control the chaos.

Mahima rushed down from the dais and vanished without performing.

Normalcy was restored in an hour and Shaan and Sukhbir performed.

Raveena Tandon, who was also to visit the programme, cancelled at the eleventh hour.

IFFI canccelled

On September 22, the Karnataka Sate Government issued a statement saying that the IFFI had been cancelled on account of the drought situation in the state. They even asked the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) officials parked in the city to leave.

It is believed that Chief Minister S M Krishna felt it was inappropriate to host the event at this time.

This sudden decision has left bureaucrats in the Information and Broadcasting ministry, the festival organisers and filmmakers in a quandary. The 10-day festival was slated to commence on October 10. They are frantically trying to come up with an alternate venue. Though it's not been finalised as yet, Delhi could well emerge as the default venue.
