Fed up of being accused of repeating his comical acts in several films, Govinda attempted a negative role in N Chandra's Shikari. The film not only took ages to see the light of the day, the audiences rejected both Govinda and the film as well.

Doing strong supporting roles also does not figure in Govinda's agenda. Only lead roles will do for the star.

This is perhaps why he rejected the role played by Anil Kapoor in Subhash Ghai's Taal and Shah Rukh Khan's friend in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, which was later accepted by Saif Ali Khan.
