He came into the world as Govind Ahuja on December 21. The son of small-time actor Arun Ahuja and bhajan singer Nirmala Devi.

He was nicknamed Chi Chi (little finger in Punjabi), since he was the youngest in the family.

Govind Ahuja had applied for a job as a steward at a five-star hotel. Fortunately for him, he got rejected, the acting bug bit, and 'Govinda' came into existence.
