Asoka opens to rave reviews

Asoka Asoka starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor opened to rave reviews, before its theatrical release in India.

Produced by Arclightz and Films Pvt Ltd and directed by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan, the film is based on the life and times of the mighty emperor Ashoka.

Special screenings for the Japan Prime Minister and his cabinet colleagues were arranged. Asoka premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 7,2001.

It will also feature at the Toronto Film Festival on September 13. The music of the film will be released on September 15.

Asoka will release on October 26 in India.

The Dalai Lama will watch the film in Paris on October 13.

Shantam - Off to Vancouver

Shantam -- the acclaimed Malayalam film directed by award-winning filmmaker Jayaraj and starring ace footballer I M Vijayan has been invited to the Vancouver film fete.

The festival is to be held from September 27 to October 12 in Canada. The movie, which won the national award for the best feature film last year, has already participated in the London Festival, the Cairo International Film Festival, the Asian Film Festival by the Italian Government in Rome, the International Film Festival of Three Continents, the International Festival of Czechoslovakia and the Moscow Festival.

Aftab's single again

Aftab Shivdasani and longtime girlfriend Jumana have parted ways. The exact reason for the split is unknown.

Aftab's heavy work schedule and the fact that Jamuna is studying in London took a heavy toll on their long distance relationship.

Another Aamir's blockbuster, Lagaan had collected Rs 6.59 million in its fourth week while Gadar, the biggest hit of the year so far, romped home with Rs 7.12 lakh.
