DD Network expands its reach

Documentary cinema has a new promoter in Doordarshan Television Network, which will now telecast non-feature films.

Films offering distinctive presentation of issues that affect everyday life will be shown every Sunday night, a Prasar Bharati release said.

These films are produced by independent filmmakers under the joint initiative of the Prasar Bharati Corporation and the Public Service Broadcasting Trust, promoted by eminent media persons.

The films on offer address several burning issues like corruption in civil society, the identity crisis amongst immigrants, rights of indigenous people and forest conservation, sexual harassment and adoption.

The first film will be screened on September 2 -- Accounts and Accountability -- by Radhika Kaul Batra is about corruption and right to information.

22 of these films are being showcased at The Open Frame, a preview festival, at the India International Centre.
