Court issues non-bailable warrants against Lajja cast, director

Lajja

Non-bailable warrants have been issued by a Kanpur court to the director and cast of the popular Hindi film, Lajja.

The warrants were issued by additional district and sessions judge of Kanpur (Rural) J P Agarwal . The warrants were being sent to the Mumbai Police Commissioner through whom these were to be served on the accused, who were directed to appear before the court by November 11.

The judge said that the action had followed following the failure of the accused to appear before the court on Tuesday , when they had been summoned . He has warned that if the accused failed to appear this time , the court would be constrained to order attachment of their respective properties.

The issue was raised before the court through a complaint filed on September 20 by one Ram Swarup against a criminal case registered against him for committing gangrape and murder of a local woman Siya Dulari. Swarup had claimed that the story of Lajja was based on that true incident .

In fact, film maker Raj Kumar Santoshi had himself admitted that he was inspired by the story of Siya Dulari, who was set ablaze alive after she was gangraped in Bhawanipur village of Kanour district.
