Are the alleged assassins innocent? The Samajwadi Party has claimed that the four gangsters gunned down by the Bombay Police were innocent youngsters. These four were alleged to have made an attempt on the lives of film actor Aamir Khan, director Ashutosh Gowariker and financier Jhamu Sugandh according to the instructions of the underworld don Abu Salem. SP spokesperson advocate Majeed Memon charged that the police resorted to extra-judicial killings of innocent youngsters belonging to a minority community. The four shot in the encounter last week were Tanvir Shaikh, Sajan Kumar Parasnath Singh, Abdul Jamil Javed Ahamed Khan and Imran Khan. At the press conference, Imran's parents said that their son was innocent and had nothing to do with the underworld. They said that there was evidence that the four were brutally tortured before being shot at close range.

The actor who hit the big time with films like Krantiveer and Agni Sakshi has been floundering with flops like Wajood and Kohram. 2000 saw the actor with only one release - Tarkieb and he has no film at all released so far into 2001. Nana took time off to do a play Purush with Ayesha Jhulka. But Nana's back in the reckoning with a trio of films - Vadh, Aanch and the Boney Kapoor-Sridevi's untitled production where he plays Karisma's father-in-law. The This film is a remake of the Sally Field starrer, Not Without My Daughter, and Nana is said to have outdone himself.
