At the mahurat of Mere Jeevan Saathi

The mahurat of Mere Jeevan Saathi, Suraj Prakash's next film that is to be directed by Suneel Darshan (of Ek Rishtaa fame) was held at Bombay's Sun 'n' Sand hotel on November 28.

The film stars Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor and Amisha Patel. We hear that Rani Mukherjee was originally cast in the film but for reasons unknown the director decided to drop her.

Madhuri to pachyderm's rescue

Concerned over the slaying of tuskers in Assam, superstar Madhuri Dixit has requested the state government to mobilise its police force to apprehend those who were poisoning the pachyderms and take steps to conserve the forests.

In a letter to Assam's Forest Minister G C Langthasa, the Bollywood actress said she was saddened to learn that within 70 days, 31 elephants had been killed.

It may be recalled that Dixit announced her dissociation with any film project where in animals were being ill-treated during shooting. Dixit has lately also associated herself with People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as an active volunteer.

Mahesh Mathai is back

Mahesh Mathai, the director of the critically acclaimed Bhopal Express recently announced his intentions of making a film based on Harris Freedman's play Something In Common.

This filming of this psychological thriller will commence early next year and will be produced Daniel Urger. Mathai is also to direct two other films titled Sacred Thread and A Walk With Mr Williams!. Produced by Bangalore-based businessman Sanjeev Shah and written by playwright Mahesh Dattani, A Walk With Mr Williams!, is believed to be very similar to the Oscar winning Driving Miss Daisy.

Kiron Kher to write, star and direct her own film

After the her award-winning performance in Baariwali, Kiron Kher, we hear has plans to script, star and direct her own film.

The script, which Kiron will pen with a close associate is expected to be completed soon.
