Anurag Kashyap pens script for Kapil Dev film
Cricketing hero Kapil Dev announced his first feature film -- Kapil Dev - The True Story on Monday. Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is expected to be closely involved with the project. Scriptwriter-turned-director Anurag Kashyap of Shool, Satya and Paanch fame will pen the script for the film.
Yeh Dil Aashikana -- Off to Afghanistan
Yeh Dil Aashikana, a film produced by Aruna Irani and directed by Kuku Kohli will be the first Indian film to hit theatre screen across Afghanistan in six years. Afghanistan was the third largest overseas market for Hindi films after the United Kingdom and the United States, till the Taleban imposed ban on films came into force. Kohli has said that negotiations were on with Afghan film distributors but formalities were still to be completed. He also added that part of the film's profits would be donated towards the welfare of Afghan children affected by the war. The film stars Karan Nath and newcomer Jividha. Aruna Irani also stars as the hero's mother.
In the eye of the storm -- Bawander
Bawander, a film based on the life of Bhawri Devi, directed by Jag Mundhra finds itself in the midst of a controversy a week before its commercial release. Apparently Devi, the inspiration of the film, wants it to be banned. She claims that Mundhra didn't seek her permission and approval before making this film. Mundhra is miffed at this declaration and is convinced that all this is the doing of social workers who have had complete command of Devi's life. He claims that after its completion Bhawri Devi was amongst the first to watch the film and her reaction to it was overwhelming. Mundhra is off to Jaipur to meet Devi in an effort to smooth the ruffled feathers.
Naushad Ali Sangeet Academy to be established Legendary film music director Naushad Ali will realise his dream of establishing an academy dedicated to music. The Maharashtra Cabinet on Monday granted permission to allot a plot of land to the veteran to construct the academy. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh announced the decision after Naushad Ali called on him at Mantralaya. The academy -- Naushad Ali Sangeet Academy would try to preserve the legacy of Indian classical music. It could be one of the biggest classical music schools in Bombay.
