Hrithik to perform at Sun City

All roads will lead to Sun City this weekend, especially if you're an Indian film star.

The second International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony, will be held there on June 16, to honour the best films, actors and technicians of the Hindi film industry for 2000.

Hollywood diva Bo Derek, who starred in the film 10, will give away the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Super Bowl. Kabir Bedi and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra will host the event.

Hrithik Roshan, is expected to perform on stage with screen sensations Karisma Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar. Aamir Khan's maiden production Lagaan will also be screened during the proceedings.

Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Sushmita Sen, Preity Zinta, Tabu and Jackie Shroff have already left Bombay to be at the show.

Dhadkan, Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai, Kya Kehna, Mission Kashmir and Mohabbatein will be slugging it out in the Best Picture category.

Aditya Chopra, Dharmesh Darshan, Mansoor Khan, Raakesh Roshan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra have been nominated for the Best Director prize for Mohabbatein, Dhadkan, Josh, Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai and Mission Kashmir respectively.

The nominees in the Best Actress category are Karisma Kapoor (Fiza), Madhuri Dixit (Pukar), Preity Zinta (Kya Kehna), Shilpa Shetty (Dhadkan) and Tabu (Astitva).

Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Shah Rukh Khan will be competing for the Best Actor trophy for their performances in Dhadkan, Pukar, Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, Mission Kashmir and Mohabbatein respectively.

The winners have be chosen via an internet poll with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the agency, which has been handling the Oscar balloting since 1935, overseeing the tabulations.

Last year, the ceremony, held at the Millennium Dome, London, saw the likes of Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie, Thora Birch, Kylie Minogue, Finley Quaye, Miranda Richardson, Sussanah York, Talvin Singh and Ashok Amritraj. Veteran actor Sunil Dutt and singer Lata Mangeshkar had received the honours then.

Commenting on the IIFA Awards, director-producer Ramesh Sippy said that it was a pleasure to see a credible platform like IIFA promoting Indian cinema internationally which showcased the best of the biggest film industry in the world.

Sippy is also a member of the advisory board along with eminent film personalities like J P Dutta, Jaya Bachchan, David Dhawan, Jeetendra, Yash Johar, Amitabh Bachchan, and Pankaj Nihalani.
