Short Takes Kareena

She's got a very mature head on slim young shoulders, Kareena Kapoor.

Did you know Bebo was responsible for the Kapoors calling truce with mom Babita?

Once upon a time, Babita had drawn swords with her in-laws. Today, all three Kapoor brothers have made up with the estranged
daughter-in-law of the khandaan; the daughters-in-law of the house are buddies, too.

Kareena, for her part, took it upon herself to get her parents together and strengthen the ties among the family.

The long vacation that parents Babita and Randhir, along with Karisma, had early this year in London, is thanks to Kareena. She had threatened to play hooky from Karan Johar's shooting.

Once she got her folks to go with her to London, Bebo saw to it that mom Babita made up with Neetu Singh and her kids, too.

Back home, when Dadi Krishna Kapoor was hospitalised, Kareena ensured that mom Babita, too, visited her mother-in-law.

Professionally, too, it was Kareena who got sis Karisma to bury the hatchet with dress designer Manish Malhotra.

Now, Manish is an inseparable part of the Kapoor sisters' high-profile lives.

Bobby, Akshaye, Amisha together after much heartache for Abbas-Mustan!

Abbas-Mustan are one relieved duo: their latest project is finally on the floors.

Akshaye Khanna Initially, it was to have been a Bobby Deol-Abhishek Bachchan-Priyanka Chopra starrer. And the makers had to knock on many a door before the film really got going.

Then Abhishek Bachchan backed out.

The director duo then approached old favourite Akshay Kumar, who turned it down because it would have been too similar to Dharmesh Darshan's film (it's yet another version of Fatal Attraction).

In stepped Arjun Rampal, who also ultimately traipsed out because he was not sure if he was ready to do a negative role so early in his career.

Amisha Patel, who replaced Priyanka Chopra Came Dil Chahta Hai to the rescue.

Abbas-Mustan were so floored by Akshaye Khanna's performance that they approached him. Akshaye was only too willing to oblige.

But just when it looked like the film was ready to roll, Priyanka dropped a bombshell -- over her dates and her price.

In came flushed-with-success Amisha Patel with the necessary dates.

And so it happens that the Bobby-Akshaye-Amisha starrer finally took off.

Feroz turns bad, cause Rishi Kapoor wants to be good!

He'd wanted Rishi Kapoor for his banner.

Fardeen Khan But now, Feroz Khan will not only direct his son Fardeen Khan in his next home production, he will be acting in it as well. Feroz will be essaying a strong negative role in the film.

The grapevine has it that Feroz wanted to remain behind the camera and cast Rishi Kapoor in the role.

Kapoor is said to have found the role rather insipid and without any meat in it. Unofficial buzz has it that the cherubic Kapoor is rather scared to try a baddie's role.

Manisha gives Rekha a hard time

Manisha Koirala always has a new bag of troublesome tricks up her plump sleeves.

And despite Rajkumar Santoshi's diplomacy over her professionalism, the fact is Manisha's tantrums caused a lot of inconvenience to her Lajja costars, especially Rekha.

Manisha Koirala During the shooting of Lajja in Hyderabad, Manisha and Rekha, along with the other stars and technicians, had checked into a hotel close to the studio.

Unhappy about some trivial arrangements and room service, Manisha decided to move into another hotel a good three hours away from the studio.

Which meant a long and consistent delay in the shooting.

Rekha and the director would be ready at the appointed hour; they would, however, be left cooling their heels waiting for Manisha to drive down.

Some hiss that the Leo lady moved because she didn't trust Rekha when Crispin Conroy (who Manisha was then dating) came a-calling.

Akshay's fundas disappoint Prakash Jha

Prakash Jha is still reeling.

Akshay Kumar For his next film, Gangajal, Jha was keen to sign on Akshay Kumar as the hero.

Akshay refused.

Jha sent feelers, too, but Akshay didn't bite the bait.

Akshay was not willing to listen to the subject. The reason is, he has fundas all set. He wants none of those award-winning art films in his kitty.

Akshay is certain that he wants to do only hardcore commercial films, awards be damned.

Govinda wants awards!

Unlike Akshay Kumar, Govinda is no longer interested in rewards.

Govinda He now lusts after awards. To that end, he's sent feelers to filmmaker Shyam Benegal and convinced him of his eagerness to work under him.

The veteran director, aware of the star's notorious ways, promised to cast him, and worked out a role for Govinda in his next film. He refused to move ahead, though, until Govinda signed an ironcast contract giving a clear picture of his dates.

Govinda, for his part, is too scared to get into any legal contract.

And Benegal will not proceed without the signed document. So the stalemate continues.

Shabana plays godmother in real life

A few years ago, Honey Irani didn't exactly greet Shabana Azmi with open arms.

Now, suddenly, Shabana has turned godmother to the Akhtar children.

Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar Shabana not only played host at a party to mark the completion of stepson Farhan Akhtar's debut film, Dil Chahta Hai, but also took care of guests at the trial shows of the film.

Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were seen making the rounds of the theatres in Bombay, talking to the audiences and gauging their reactions to the film.

What's more, Shabana has even begun to recount tales of young Farhan's childhood days. It's thanks to her way with words that she quite makes the listener forget that she never was on the scene to see Farhan grow up.
