Presenting Vinod Kambli -- The actor

Cricketer-turned-actor Vinod Kambli's very excited about his role in Ravi Dewan's Anarth.

Following in the footsteps of fellow cricketers Anil Kumble and Ajay Jadeja, Kambli has begun his innings in the world of cinema.

Lagaan, Uttara, Astitva, Bavandar, Bariwali chosen for the 32nd India International Film Festival

Lagaan Oorku Nooruper, a B Lenin film will inaugurate the feature film category of the Indian Panorama section at the 32nd India International Film Festival to be held in Bangalore in October this year.

30 films are selected to feature at the festival by a panel headed by Shaji N Karun. Among regional language films to be selected are Mansur Mianr Ghor by Nabyendu Chatterjee, Munnudi by P Sheshadri, Bariwali by Rituparno Ghosh, Uttara by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Dhyaas Parva by Amol Palekar, Deham by Govind Nihalani and Astitva by Mahesh Manjrekar.

Lagaan, Zubeidaa and Bavandar will be among the Hindi films featured.

3000 delegates from the film and entertainment circles will converge in Bangalore for 480 screenings and three seminars.

Do not malign Yaadein or its director

Yaadein The President of The Film Producers’ Guild Of India, has written a letter to all journalists, in which he expresses his concern about the reviews published and about comments made in the electronic media regarding Yaadein and its director, Subhash Ghai.

He wrote that the reviews and comments smacked of certain personal vendetta. And added that as the media had always stood by the film industry in times of crisis he was sure it would refrain from publishing anything, which may block the development of the Indian film industry.

Monsoon Wedding eager for an October release

Indian-born director Mira Nair of Salaam Bombay fame is looking forward to an October release for her new project, Monsoon Wedding.

The film tell the tale of an Indian family that reunites from across the globe for a grand wedding in Delhi.

Monsoon Wedding, shot with a hand-held camera, blends the realistic style of Nair's earlier works with a song-and-dance routine that reflects mainstream Hindi cinema.

The film, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Soni Razdan and Lillete Dubey, has been selected to compete in the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival.
