'I have nothing to do with child adoption'

Syed Amin Jafri

Amala Akkineni Telugu film actress Amala Akkineni said, on April 27, that she has nothing to do with child adoption activity.

She expressed surprise over reports that the Gulbarga district police officials in neighbouring Karnataka state would visit Hyderabad to quiz her in connection with the activities of an adoption home in Hyderabad.

Amala told media persons that she was associated with Blue Cross of Hyderabad, an animal rights organisation. She also runs a centre for stray animals.

However, she does not run any orphanage or child care centre. She only serves on the advisory board of an orphanage in the city but has no role in the functioning of the daily affairs of the organisation.

Reports from Gulbarga quoted Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar that a police team would be sent to Hyderabad to probe the sale of two infants from Konehavaram village in Chincholi in Gulbarga district, to a city-based adoption home -- St Theresa's Tender Love Care Home -- which has Amala as a board member.
