Raj Kapoor Award for Sandhya

Veteran actress Sandhya and filmmaker Ram Gabale will be awarded the Raj Kapoor and V Shantaram Awards respectively for their contribution to cinema by the Maharashtra Government.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will do the honours on April 30, at the 38th Marathi Film Awards function, said Culture Minister Ramkrishna More.

The Shantaram Award comprises a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh while the Raj Kapoor Award carries an award of Rs one lakh.

Gabale, who began his career in films in 1942, is known for his films like Vande Mataram, Mothi Manse, Doodh Bhaat, Phool Aur Kaliyan, while Sandhya starred in classics like Do Aakhen Bara Haath, Navrang, Amar Bhupali and Pinjara.
