Television channels against Bharat Shah?
Komal Nahta
Bharat Shah's interrogation by the Bombay police's crime branch about funding for the controversial film, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, has not revealed anything incriminating against the leading film financier
But the negative publicity he has got on some television channels gives this correspondent the impression that the episode may slowly turn into a war of the networks.
Along with steel magnate Laxmi Narain Mittal and Kishore Lulla, Shah is one of the three sponsors of the freshly minted B4U channel, which currently provides tough competition to the older networks.
Says one leading producer-director, on condition of anonymity, "The channels seem to be capitalising on this case by dragging Bharatbhai's name into it more than required. They seem to have made up their mind that he has a nexus with the underworld even though the police have not drawn any such conclusion."
