Behind the scenes

Did you know...

Hum Saath-Saath Hain Raveena Tandon was the first choice for Salman Khan's romantic interest in Hum Saath-Saath Hain? Salman was rather keen that she do it. But Raveena, who was attempting a comeback, felt that a multistarrer would not do her much good at the time. Which decision worked in favour of Sonali Bendre, who finally bagged the role.

The role of the eldest bhabhi was initially offered to Madhuri Dixit. Who declined, saying she wasn't keen on being cast opposite Mohnish Bahl and playing Salman and Saif Ali Khan's bhabhi. Especially since they had earlier played her romantic interest in films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and Aarzoo respectively. The role was eventually done by Tabu.

Salman Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Reema, Ajit Vachhani, Alok Nath are the regulars with Sooraj Barjatya. He has continued the tradition by repeating all of the them in Hum Saath-Saath Hain.

The only regular conspicuous by his absence was Laxmikant Berde. Bedre featured in meaty roles in Sooraj's earlier films, Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!

Hum Saath-Saath Hain would have been released much earlier, but for the music. Composer Raamlakshman was just not convinced he could do justice to the story of the film, which he felt was very powerful. It took a tremendous amount of persuasion on Sooraj Barjatya's part before he finally agreed to do the film.

Raamlakshman composed as many as 27 tunes, out of which the final seven were selected.

As Raamlakshman says, this is the first time ever in the history of Bollywood, or even Hollywood, that a song featuring all the letters of the English alphabet has been composed.

Unlike the earlier Sooraj Barjatya films, Lata Mangeshkar was not approached to sing for Hum Saath-Saath Hain. Composer Ramlakshman explained that, this time round, each song would be featured on all the stars. So each singer would get only a line or two. Under which circumstances, he did not think it would be appropriate to trouble someone like Lata Mangeshkar.

Hum Saath-Saath Hain The Barjatyas were quite press-friendly during the making of both Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! Journalists saw Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! six months prior to its release. Which is definitely not the case with Hum Saath-Saath Hain. The press screening was restricted to an elite few; the others had to content themselves with watching the film on the day of the release.

The Rajshris have already made Rs 600 million on the film before it was released. It is rumoured that exhibitors are been charged an exorbitant price. Every little thing about the film is being sold, including pictures to the press and promos for television.

Coke, which has bagged the publicity rights to the film, has spent at least Rs 12.5 million on promoting Hum Saath-Saath Hain.

This is the first Rajshri film that will be screened in as many as a thousand theatres in the first week itself.

All the theatres in which Hum Saath-Saath Hain is to be released have to be equipped with Digital Theatre Sound and clean toilets. They have also been asked to put in new projectors and carpet their halls...

Rajshri is expected to make about 15-20 crores in the first week itself.

Finally, it was during the making of this very clean family entertainer that Salman Khan was arrested in the infamous black buck shooting incident in Jodhpur.
