If you are re-elected, what would you do differently?
I have to organise my time in such a way that I am more visible in the constituency. In my last term, I was very accessible and available in my office, but visibility within the constituency was not too much. Though a lot of work was done, I did not put up my signboards, nor did I go around breaking coconuts when my funds were used for a project.
The problem with the Congress is that advertising and marketing is not done well. During my previous tenure, I never marketed myself; in fact I used to run away. Now I realise that what happens is, people ask you what you have done. So it is important to do it out there, to be in your face.
Another thing I want to do is focus more on what I can do from Delhi. Last time, my focus was more on local issues. This time, I want to go to Delhi and get as much funds as I can for Mumbai.
There's considerable hype about Metro Rail, but there appears to be a dearth of infrastructure development in your constituency.
It will feel like that. The Metro Rail project has started, but people are bound to be inconvenienced when it is being constructed. Roads are getting widened, but more cars are coming in.
What do you think of the Nano?
It makes you feel good when a common man can afford a car. That's wonderful. But it's also a nightmare for a city like Mumbai.
