Gandhi also hit out at the Left in its bastion for its opposition to the Indo-United States civil nuclear deal and 'failure' to implement 'path-breaking' schemes mooted by the Centre for rural development like the NREGA.
Echoing her son Rahul's criticism of the CPI-M led government, that central funds remained almost unutilised in the state for years, Gandhi said, "I feel sorry to see the condition of the poor in the state".
In a stinging attack on the Marxists, Gandhi said the state had badly failed to implement the NREGA programme. Lalgola is part of the Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency, from where External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is seeking re-election.
