'Divisive politics doesn't help anybody'

April 21, 2009
How do these people react to you?

Hard to tell. My dad has known them for 32 years. Most of them are meeting me for the first time. They are extremely warm.

There is talk about a tie up between the Shiv Sena and your party, the NCP?

It is not possible. Our work is completely different. In every sense. If they don't get something, they agitate. We are not going to break anything and all that. You have to celebrate humanity and life in the 21st century.

I am very, very proud to be a Maharashtrian and to be living in this state. But I am proud to be Indian. I can't take one away from the other. I am proud to be both.

Divisive politics doesn't help anybody. It only makes things worse.

The second thing is that boundaries are getting wiped out. India is such a beautiful country. It has so many languages. It has so much culture, such great food. So why can't we enjoy it all?
