Three election observers have been withdrawn from three constituencies in Madurai district following complaints against them by political parties, Election Commission sources said in Madurai on Wednesday.

They told PTI that the three observers, Rupram Jowal (Samayanallur), Ameet Jha (Tiruparankunram) and Aswini Kumar (Madurai east) would not be given any election related work in Tamil Nadu or anywhere else.

Meanwhile, district officials said that they were permitted to spend a maximum of Rs 5,000 for each observer's stay till
the elections. But the three had reportedly demanded more.

One of the observers reportedly snatched the recorded cassette of a TV cameraman for recording his stay at Kodaikanal and threw it into the gorge. The observers were going around the hill station with police escort.

Revenue officials, in charge of reception, face a problem as they do not have allocation for expenses and find the going difficult.
