Veteran Congress leader Bhajan Lal on Saturday extended his complete support to Bhupendra Singh Hooda, who has been chosen by the party to be the next chief minister of Haryana.

Hooda met Bhajan Lal at his residence in the morning and sought his cooperation in running the new government.

Bhajan Lal, himself a contender for Haryana chief minister's post, had not attended the Congress Legislature Party's meeting, where Hooda was elected its chief, in New Delhi on Friday. Over 20 MLAs, all Bhajan Lal supporters, also stayed away from the meeting.

Bhajan Lal has said he will not attend Hooda's swearing in ceremony in Chandigarh. He has deputed his son, Chandra Mohan, an MLA, to attend the function.

"The Hooda government will be completely stable. I will offer full cooperation to it. I will follow whatever is the direction given by the party high command," Bhajan Lal said.
