Re-polling begins in Bihar, Jharkhand

Re-polling began in 658 booths in four districts of Bihar and 66 booths in five constituencies in Jharkhand on Monday.

The first phase of the three-phase assembly elections in the two states was held on February three.

In Bihar, re-polling is underway in 327 booths in Gaya, 141 in Jehanabad, 84 in Bhojpur and 106 in Nawada. In Gaya, re-polling has been ordered in most of those booths that had recorded over 70 percent turnout on February 3.

On Sunday, re-polling was held in 354 booths in eight districts.

The Election Commission had ordered the re-poll following reports by observers about large-scale irregularities, including violence, booth capturing and damage to electronic voting machines.

In Jharkhand, the re-poll was ordered because of delay in polling on Thursday due to defective electronic voting machines.

In Bagodar, where balloting was adjourned in eight booths due to obstruction on February three, the exercise continued on Monday.
