In Wai constituency, former Satara district Congress chief Madan Bhosle is contesting as an independent.
He hopes to spoil NCP candidate Makrant Patil's party.
"He said give me five seats, he said three, he said give me at least two, but they did not listen. It is a rebellion against the Congress. It has nothing to do with the NCP," said Prof R D Dubal, a Bhosle supporter.
"As president of the Congress in Satara, Madan Bhosle has worked very hard. He didn't want all these seats for himself. He was asking them for the Congress," said Madhavrao Bhaskar Sawant, another party worker.
In districts like Satara and Pune, the situation is especially worrying for the Congress, which is contesting just one seat in the former and three in the latter district.
"It is a question of existence for us," Sawant added.
