Battle Royale in Satara

< Back > < Next >
When the rickshaw driver dropped me at Jal Mandir Palace, he told me, "Make sure you take permission before entering."

For a moment, I couldn't figure out why he said that. There could only be two explanations: it was advice given to visitors or he felt it necessary to show his reverence to Udayanraje Bhosle. Or 'Maharaj', as everyone here calls him.

Udayanraje is contesting the Satara assembly seat on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. His opponent is his cousin Shivendraraje Bhosle, representing the Nationalist Congress Party.
