The band played a popular song, Manmada Raasaa, and some young men started dancing deliriously. Women rushed to him to perform aarti and apply kumkum on his forehead.

Someone presented a sword to him, which he raised. When he was given a garland of currency notes, he grabbed the mike and said, "I am giving this to the party." Some more aartis and some more kumkum on his forehead later, his jeep slowly moved ahead.

It was then stopped by another group of women who went through the same routine. Someone held out a baby to him, and he named it Kanimozhi (Karunanidhi's daughter's name). The jeep then moved ahead once more.
