Militants struck on the eve of the assembly polls in Left Front-ruled Tripura attacking a BSF convoy with grenades injuring four securitymen and abducting two CPI-M supporters even as the bodies of three of other abducted victims were found on Tuesday, police said.
NLFT cadres hurled two grenades at the BSF convoy at Gulsingbari under Champahaor police station in West Tripura district before fleeing from the scene.
The injured securitymen were admitted to the G B Hospital in Agartala in a critical condition, the sources said.
In another incident, NLFT cadres on Tuesday morning abducted two CPI-M supporters at gunpoint from Shambhucharanpara under Jirania police station of the same district.
Meanwhile, the body of Manirung Tripura (26), a CPI-M activist abducted on Monday night when she was returning home from the Purathal Rajbari market in South Tripura district, was found on Tuesday, police said.
The body bearing multiple injuries was discovered from the nearby Wangcherra rubber garden.
Kishore Reang, elder brother of the CPI-M candidate in Kanchanpur constituency in North Tripura district, was on Monday abducted at gunpoint from Kanchanpur town by NLFT cadres and shot dead, the sources said. His bullet riddled body was found on Tuesday.
The body of another CPI-M activist Jayenta Debbarma abducted by the NLFT from Mehendi village in Dhalai district on Monday night was found from a nearby jungle on Tuesday morning, the police said.
Meanwhile, three Congress activists were seriously injured during the day in a clash with CPI-M supporters.
Police said trouble started when a group of about 75 Congress supporters armed with knives and lathis attacked a CPI-M party office and smashed a television set and furniture.
In retaliation, CPI-M men attacked the Congressmen and injured three of them. The Marxists also damaged three autorickshaws in the area, the sources said.
CPI-M spokesman Gautam Das condemned the killings and the abductions alleging that the NLFT was the underground organisation of the opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT).
The NLFT had targeted the CPI-M to create a fear psychosis, he said.
AICC observer for Tripura Wasim Ahmed, on the other hand, condemned the attack on Congress activists. He claimed that seven party activists were injured in the incident.
