Apna Dal announces support to secular government in UP

Election 2002 In an apparent boost to the Samajwadi Party's efforts to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh, the Apna Dal on Tuesday announced that it would extend conditional support to a secular government in order to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party out of power.

"The Apna Dal will extend conditional and outside support to a secular government and will not join it," state party president Atiq Ahmad said.

The party has two members in the assembly.

He, however, said that the next government would not last for more than two years.
