BJP parliamentary board to decide on UP issue

Election 2002 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh and state BJP president Kalraj Mishra on Monday briefed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee about the prevailing political situation in the state following the party's defeat and a fractured verdict in the assembly election.

The informal meeting ahead of the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting slated for Monday evening discussed the options before the party in the post-poll situation.

The meeting, which was attended by party president K Jana Krishnamurthy and former president Kushabhau Thakre, discussed whether to make an attempt to form the government or sit in the opposition, party sources said.

Considering that the party is sharply divided on the issue, it was felt that the parliamentary board would be the best forum to decide on the matter.

Singh and Mishra, who were summoned to Delhi by the party high command, would attend the parliamentary board meeting to brief the members on the party's electoral debacle.
