UP: SP bags 146 seats, BJP 107, BSP 99

Election 2002

The Samajwadi Party has bagged 145 seats in Uttar Pradesh out of the results declared for 401 seats, making it the single largest party in the state.

But the figure is woefully short of that magic figure of 202 seats needed to form a government.

There are just two more results to be declared.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is the biggest loser trailing in second place with just 107 seats. The Bahajun Samaj Party is third with 97 seats and the Congress a poor fourth with just 26 seats in its kitty.

Independents have also bagged 26 seats, which would be crucial for any of the big three looking to form a government.
