55 pc votes cast in repoll in four states

An estimated 55 per cent of the votes were cast during peaceful re-poll in 461 polling stations across four states today.

While the booths in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh recorded 65 per cent polling, an estimated 56.18 per cent of the electorate cast their ballot at 65 polling stations in Madhya Pradesh.

In Bihar, where 38 people were killed during elections on Saturday, a low turnout of 40 per cent was recorded. Re-poll was held amid tight security today in Bihar (201 polling stations), Uttar Pradesh (107), Andhra Pradesh (88) and Madhya Pradesh (65).

The re-poll at these booths, spread across 44 Lok Sabha constituencies, was ordered as electoral malpractices were detected there during the third phase of general elections on September 18.

In the Khajuraho and Damoh Lok Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh, polling was held today at one polling booth each as election officials could not reach there on time on Saturday because of heavy rains.
