wins trust vote in Maharashtra
The Democratic Front government in Maharashtra led by Vilasrao Deshmukh today won the vote of confidence in the state legislative assembly by a voice vote.
The opposition Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance members were not present when the one-line motion seeking confidence of the house was moved by Satish Chaturvedi of the Congress, Syed Ahmed of the Nationalist Congress Party and Mohan Patil of the Peasants and Workers Party.
When the house assembled at 1100 hours, Bala Nandgaonkar (Sena) and others moved an adjournment motion criticising the Democratic Front government's role in the attack on a Sena MLA from
Shivajinagar (Pune) Vinayak Nimhan on Octomber 19.
Soon, the leader of opposition, Narayan Rane, BJP leader Gopinath Munde and others were on their feet lambasting the new government for allegedly trying to ''finish off'' opposition members to reduce their strength in the house.
Raising a point of order, former leader of opposition, Madhukarrao Pichad said that the opposition seemed to have forgotten that his house as well as that of Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal were attacked by Shiv Sainiks.
The opposition later staged a walkout.
After the opposition members had left, Bhujbal said that the attack on Nimhan was a fallout of a family dispute. Seven persons have already been arrested in this connection, he added.
