Narayan Rane stakes claim to form govt

Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane today staked the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance's claim to form the next government in the state.

Rane along with his deputy and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde met Governor P C Alexander this morning. They urged him to give them time till 1130 hours tomorrow to submit a list of legislators supporting their proposed government.

Addressing the media, Rane reiterated that the Sena-BJP alliance has the support of 145 members in the 288-strong state legislative assembly. The picture will be clear tomorrow morning, he said.

On the reported differences between the two partners, Rane categorically said, ''There have been no differences between us.''

On the conflicting statements made by the two parties every day, Rane said, ''That is politics.''

Munde said that ''earlier they were not sure whether they had the numbers to form the government, but now we are sure that we have the required numbers''.

Asked about the Sena-BJP differences, Munde said, ''Let us not discuss politics at Raj Bhavan.''
