TDP-BJP alliance seems set to sweep AP assemblyShireen in Hyderabad The Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance has bagged 172 seats and looks set to sweep the 294-member assembly in Andhra Pradesh. The alliance sprang several surprises in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and neighbouring Rangareddy district. Though the TDP failed to wrest Chevella seat in Rangareddy from the Congress, it seized Sanathnagar and Khairatabad from the party. The TDP retained Secunderabad and Himayatnagar in the state capital and Tandur and Vikarabad in Rangareddy. The BJP, on the other hand, retained Maharajgunj and wrested Musheerabad from the Congress in the state capital. But the BJP lost Karwan to the Majlis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen. Thus, its overall tally in the state capital region remained at two. The Congress lost Musheerabad, Sanathnagar and Khairatabad while retaining Asifnagar. The MIM improved its position as compared to 1994, bagging four seats. Last time, it won just one. Apart from wresting Karwan from the BJP, the MIM retained Charminar.
