Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, who recently won his battle against cancer, on Saturday, launched 'YouWeCan', an initiative dedicated to raise cancer-awareness.
The initiative supported by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation (YSF), is instituted with intent to combat cancer by spreading awareness about the disease, advantages of early detection and fighting the stigma attached to it.
Speaking at the launch, Yuvraj Singh said, "The journey from being a part of the World Cup-winning team to fighting for my life has indeed been full of emotions. I was faced with the biggest high of witnessing India lift the World Cup and the shock of suffering from cancer, both at nearly the same time. Having experienced cancer personally, I can totally empathize with the pain and difficulties faced by a cancer patient and thus we have launched 'YouWeCan'," he said.
'I appeal to everyone to come forward for early detection'
"I feel extremely passionate and motivated about using thisa platform to appeal to everyone, to come forward for early detection, as I have myself benefited from it and it is key to saving your life. I am determined to make a dent in the society and fight for controlling cancer but cannot achieve my objectives without your participation and support. I believe, together You and We CAN. And remember, if Yuvi Can, You Can!!" he added.
'YouWeCan' will extend its wings across the country by introducing various awareness initiatives, set up detection camps through mobile vans by reaching out to the masses, establish permanent detection centers across the country and initiate a 'Speak Up Campaign', to establish a base for fighting Stigma against Cancer, all in association with the Indian Cancer Society.The program will help drive out misinformation about the disease
The initiative intends to get some of the most respected and established names from various industries on board, who are willing to contribute towards enhancing the reach of this program and making it a revolution.
The idea of the initiative is also to make the public aware of the misinformation regarding the disease and also tell people that patients suffering from cancer are normal.
Yuvraj Singh's mother, Shabnam Singh also graced the occasion and unveiled the 'YouWeCan' logo with Yuvraj.
'YouWeCan' has a website detailed with the story of Yuvraj's life till date, reasonably extensive information about Cancer.
