Yuvraj and his tryst with injuries at training...

India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh sustained a left ankle injury during the barefoot football session on Tuesday.

The injury renders him a doubtful starter for Friday’s semi-final against South Africa.

This is not the first time that the Punjab all-rounder got injured before a crucial match or tournament.

In fact, Yuvraj has a history of injuries, sustained mostly during training sessions, which have kept him out of major tournaments.

Yuvraj was forced to miss a do-or-die Champions Trophy match against then World champions Australia, in 2006.

He injured his left knee after slipping during a game of kho-kho that the team played at the start of a nets session in Mohali.

It was a "cruciated ligament injury" that he sustained.

Yuvraj lay on the ground for several minutes writhing in pain as the then physio, John Gloster, attended to him. He then limped all the way to the dressing room and was in severe pain as he tried unsuccessfully to keep his left foot on the ground.

An MRI scan later revealed a ligament tear.

Another Champions Trophy tournament and another major blow for Yuvraj.

Ahead of the Champions Trophy in September 2009 he was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a finger injury.

He fractured his finger during a fielding session at the University ground in Johannesburg before India’s opening match against Pakistan.

He was enthusiastically participating in the fielding session, but ended up hurting his right finger so badly that he couldn't attend the batting and bowling sessions later that day.

While batting in the nets before the England match in Bangalore at the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj injured his hand after being struck by a Shantakumaran Sreesanth delivery.

He played the game and went on to score a half century (58 off 50 balls) in that tied match.

He went on to recover from the injury-scare in the nets and emerged the player of the tournament.

The southpaw also suffered a couple of injuries while batting in the middle.

During India's tour to Bangladesh in 2010, he injured his wrist in the second Test in January.

He was out of the squad for a while and missed the following series against South Africa, but played in Indian Premier League-3 season where he failed to fire since he was still recovering from the wrist injury.

In 2011, during India's disastrous tour of England, Yuvraj injured his index finger after being hit by a Tim Bresnan delivery in the Trent Bridge Test.

Despite the blow, and the pain that followed, he went on to score a fighting 62.
