Rajneesh Gupta digs out the records Sachin Tendulkar has eclipsed since his debut in 1989.

After becoming the most capped player in Test history, with 169 Test appearances, overtaking former Australia captain Steve Waugh, Sachin Tendulkar has nothing left to achieve.

The highest run-getter in both forms of game -- Test and One-dayers, he also has the maximum number of centuries under his belt in both the versions.

That record stand of 664 at Azad Maidan, in Mumbai, in 1988, with Vinod Kambli, is the cornerstone of Tendulkar greatness.

Only player to hit century on debut in Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy

It was while playing for his school, Sharadashram, against St. Xavier's at the Azad Maidan in February, 1988, that he caught the eye. He and Kamble shared a record unbroken stand of 664 runs for the third-wicket. Both players remained unbeaten on 326 and 349 respectively.

He scored a hundred (100*) for Mumbai against Gujarat at Mumbai in the 1988-89 season on his first class debut to then become the youngest to do so on debut in Indian first class cricket and then the second youngest to score a hundred at the age of 15 years & 232 days.

He remains the only player to score a century on debut in Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy. His scoring sequence was: 100 not out for Mumbai against Gujarat at Mumbai in 1988-89 in Ranji Trophy, 103 not out for Rest of India against Delhi at Delhi in 1989-90 in Irani Trophy and 159 for West Zone against East Zone at Guwahati in 1990-91 in Duleep Trophy.

Third youngest Test debutant

On his Test debut, Tendulkar was the third youngest debutant (16 years 205 days). Mushtaq Mohammad (15 years, 124 days) and Aaqib Javed (16 years 189 days) debuted in Test matches at a younger age than Tendulkar.

Since then, there have been two players who were younger than Sachin on their Test debut: Hasan Raza - Pakistan (14 years, 227 days), the current youngest debutant, and Mohammad Sharif - Bangladesh (15 years, 128 days).

With the tag of highest run scorer in Test cricket, 13,742 runs, under his belt, he is the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to make over 10,000 runs in Test matches.

On January 3, 2007, Tendulkar (5751) edged past Brian Lara's (5736) world record of runs scored in Tests away from home. He achieved the feat in 75 away Tests, while Lara had scored his runs in 66 away Tests.

He has the highest number of Test centuries (48), overtaking Sunil Gavaskar's record (34) in December 2005 vs Sri Lanka in Delhi. Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 39 centuries.

By the time he turned 20, he had five centuries under his belt, which also happens to be a world record.

Tendulkar holds the current record (217 against NZ in 1999-00) for the highest score in Test cricket by an Indian when captaining the side. Gavaskar held the previous record (205 against the West Indies in Bombay in 1978-79).

He has scored centuries against all Test-playing nations. He was the third batman to achieve the distinction after Steve Waugh and Gary Kirsten.

Besides the centuries, he also has the distinction of scoring most fifty-plus innings (48 hundreds and 55 fifties = 103) which remains the world record for any batsman. Ricky Ponting is second with 91 fifty-plus scores.

He is the first to appear in 400 innings in ODI matches and has most runs in the shorter version of the game with 17,598 runs at an average of 45.12.

He recently became first player to hit a double century in ODIs when he cracked up the South African bowling at Gwalior. Besides this he has three scores of 175 or more and five scores of 150 or more.

He holds the record for scoring 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year on most occasions. He did so seven times - 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2007.

To add to those numbers are the man-of-the-match (60) and man-of-series awards (16) he has won for the country.
