IPL PHOTOS: Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Kieron Pollard's blazing 66 off 27 balls lifted Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket victory, with three balls to spare, over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

The West Indies ace single-handedly won the match for Mumbai. 

Earlier, Parthiv Patel gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a flying start as he slammed Mitchell Johnson for four boundaries in the first over of the innings.

Patel started the match with a boundary through midwicket before hitting the last three balls of the opening overs for boundaries as the visitors scored 19 runs from the first over.

Shikhar Dhawan got off the mark with a six as he got a thick outside edge off Dhawal Kulkarni trying to hit it over the off-side and Patel hit another four in that over.

Lasith Malinga provided the first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians as he claimed the wicket of Patel.

The left-hander pulled a short ball but hit it straight into the hands of Ambati Rayudu at deep square leg and was dismissed after a quick innings of 26 from 14 balls, hitting five boundaries.

Dhawan took over the mantle of getting quick runs after the dismissal of Patel.

He targetted Pragyan Ojha straightaway as he slog swept him for a six over midwicket in the seventh over.

The Hyderabad opener hit Malinga for back-to-back boundaries in the 11th over to bring up his half-century from 36 balls.

Young Hanuma Vihari played a useful innings of 41 from 37 balls to help Hyderabad make good progress in the middle overs.

He put on 73 runs from 54 balls for the second wicket with Dhawan before adding 55 runs from 34 balls for the third wicket with Cameron White.

Captain Cameron White provided the boost in the final overs with a blazing innings of 43 from 23 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes.

He was dropped on 28 off Johnson by Rayudu in the 18th over and he made Mumbai pay dearly for that lapse as he lifted Hyderabad to a huge 178 for three in their 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians Dwayne Smith early. He was bowled by Ishant Sharma after a brisk 21 from 17 balls, in the fourth over of the innings.

Sachin Tendulkar cut loose after a cautious start to hit 38 from 31 balls, hitting three fours and a six.

He put on 68 runs in 49 balls for the second wicket with Dinesh Karthik before he was forced to retire with an injury on his left hand, in the 12th over of the innings.

Mumbai Indians lost their way following the wicket of Tendulkar. They lost two quick wickets, in the space of nine deliveries.

Dinesh Karthik, who made 30 from 23 balls, was caught at cover off Karan Sharma in the 12th over. In his next over, the leg-spinner got Ambati Rayudu, stumped for two, as Mumbai were reduced to 99 for three in the 14th over.

Mumbai faced an uphill task going into the closing overs, with 79 runs needed from the last six for victory.

Kieron Pollard and Rohit Sharma went after the Hyderabad bowlers and turned the match on its head.

Pollard flattened the visitors with a stunning exhibition of stroke-making, slamming 66 runs from a mere 27 balls to take Mumbai to an unlikely victory.

He hit eight huge sixes and two boundaries to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as Mumbai continued their unbeaten run at home.

Pollard took a liking to Thisara Perera, whom he smashed for three sixes in a row in the 17th over.

He then smashed Amit Mishra for three more sixes in his next over to race to his half-century off 20 balls.

Rohit Sharma finished unbeaten on 20 from 15 balls and was a virtual spectator during the match-winning fourth-wicket partnership of 85 runs from 6.1 overs.

Pollard ended the match in grand style, hitting two huge sixes off Perera in the final over, as Mumbai won by seven wickets with three deliveries to spare.
