Yuvraj Singh made it back to the Indian team for the limited-overs series against Australia, but seniors Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were again ignored.
Yuvraj, who was in good form recently for India Blue in the Challenger Trophy and for India 'A' against West Indies 'A', was included in the team for the one-off T20 and first three One-dayers of the seven-match series.
The 31-year-old, who played a key role in India's World Cup triumph in 2011, last played for India in January, against England at Dharamsala, after which he was dropped due to poor form.
In the off season, Yuvraj underwent rigorous physical training along with Zaheer Khan in France.
He made an immediate impact in his comeback, scoring 123, 40 and 61 for India 'A' against the West Indies 'A', and also smashed 52 against the same opponent in a T20 game.
He carried his good form into the Challenger Trophy, where he led India Blue to the title, scoring 84 against India Red and 29 in the final against Delhi.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also back to lead the side after being rested in the previous series in Zimbabwe, which India won 5-0.
Ambati Rayudu also holds his place in the team while Abhishek Nayar misses out despite a good performance in the Challenger Trophy.
Amit Mishra and R Ashwin are the two frontline spinners while part-timers Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina will also be utilised.
Pacers Mohammad Shami and Jaydev Unadkat also get another opportunity to prove their worth.
The T20 game will be played in Rajkot on October 10.
The three ODIs are in Pune (October 13), Jaipur (October 16) and Mohali (October 19).
