India face an anxious wait over the fitness status of fast bowler Praveen Kumar, who is yet to recover from the elbow injury he sustained during last month's tour of South Africa.

Kumar is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, but reports suggest that he could soon leave for England for further treatment.

A source close to the pacer said he is awaiting a visa to make a quick dash to England before returning in time for the World Cup, which begins on February 19.

Praveen KumarHowever, it looks highly unlikely that he will miss the tournament being staged in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The national selectors too are not losing any sleep over his fitness.

"We have not heard anything on Kumar's injury nor have we discussed any possible replacements," one of the selectors told rediff.com on Tuesday.

If Kumar fails to recover in time, speedster S Sreesanth is the leading candidate to replace him in the 15-member squad.
