The ICC has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that opener Upul Tharanga tested positive for a banned substance.
According to a statement issued by SLC, the batsman's urine sample was taken on March 29 after the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.
The ICC said disciplinary action has been initiated against Tharanga.
SLC said the player will not be selected for this month's ODI series against England or the Sri Lanka 'A' team's tour of England.
Sources in SLC said veteran Sanath Jayasuriya, at 42, is likely to be picked in Tharanga's place.
