Propelled by a fiery spell of B K Venkatesh Prasad, who grabbed six wickets for 51 runs, Karnataka struck back with a vengeance against Tamil Nadu, gaining a first innings lead of 24 runs on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B cricket match at Bangalore on Saturday.

After being bowled out for 208 on Friday, the hosts got their act together in right earnest, dismissing the visitors for 184 in 60.5 overs on a rain-curtailed day at the Indian Air Force grounds.

S Sriram top scored for Tamil Nadu with 44 (7 x 4), followed by S Sharath, who made 38 (6 x 4). R Ram Kumar and Ganesh Kumar chipped in with 27 and 23 respectively but the side could not surpass Karnataka's modest score.

At stumps, Karnataka were 23 for the loss of skipper J Arun Kumar's wicket. Kumar, who was bowled by M R Srinivas, made 13.
