England-Windies 3rd Test abandoned after more rain

Rain on the final day too forced the umpires to abandon the third Test between England and the West Indies at Edgbaston as a draw on Monday.

England won the series 2-0, after five-wicket and nine-wicket victories at Lord's and Trent Bridge respectively.

Three days out of a possible five days were lost to rain. After more rain on Monday the umpires called of the match shortly before 1415 GMT.

The West Indies' Tino Best, who smashed 95 on Sunday, Day four of the Test, to record the highest score by a number 11 batsmen in the history of the game, was adjudged man of the match.

Marlon Samuels of the West Indies and England's Andrew  Strauss were named players of the series.

England were 221 for five overnight on Sunday in reply to the West Indies' first innings 426, a deficit of 205 runs and needing a further 56 to avoid the follow-on.

Ian Bell, attempting to become the first Warwickshire batsman to score a Test hundred on his Edgbaston home ground,

was left on 76 not out and nightwatchman Steven Finn nought not out.

Scores: West Indies 426; England 221 for five.
