India football captain Sunil Chhetri joined a host of sports personalities to wish cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar on being sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

The 27-year-old striker said, "At present Sachin (Tendulkar) is the most respected sportsperson in the country. He is the most loved of sports personalities of my generation. We all look up to Sachin as a human being."

The 39-year-old Tendulkar was nominated to the Upper House in April. He will take oath as member of Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Though Chhetri feigns ignorance on political matters, when it comes to congratulating Tendulkar he is not far behind.

"As MP, I wish Sachin all the best; he will do well as he has been doing well in the sporting field," he said.

Asked whether it's time now that Tendulkar should be awarded the Bharat Ratna, Chhetri replied: "Apart from football, my knowledge is not too great about other fields; I do not even know the criteria for the award."

But he went on to add, "Sachin should get whatever awards he deserves."
