'If I say it's unbelievable it's an understatement.'
Sachin Tendulkar believes the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, which was played at the Wankhede Stadium during the 1999-2000 season, is his most memorable game in the championship.
Tendulkar traveled down memory lane at an event to celebrate Mumbai's 500th Ranji Trophy game, which the Mumbai team will play against Baroda commencing Thursday, November 9.
Tendulkar described how Mumbai overtook Tamil Nadu's first innings score of 485 with him and last man Santosh Saxena at the crease.
Tendulkar, who hit a double century in the game, recalled that after the ball was changed by the umpires, it suddenly started to reverse.
"I started to stand outside the crease and Hemang Badani would tell the bowler from point in Tamil that I was standing outside. I then went back to the crease when the bowler started his run up."
"After the match I told Badani that I understand Tamil," he told the gathering at the Mumbai Cricket Association's Sharad Pawar Academy at the Bandra-Kurla complex, north west Mumbai.
Mumbai won that game by 8 wickets.
Tendulkar pointed out that Mumbai's success percentage in Ranji games was 47 per cent.
"If I say it's unbelievable," the champion batsman and scorer of 100 hundreds in international cricket added, "it's an understatement."
