A teen cricket umpire was beaten with a set of stumps during a match in London after he turned down an appeal for a batsman to be given caught out.
Players from the fielding side pulled stumps out of the ground and repeatedly struck 18-year-old Matthew Lowson and left him bruised during a match on Sunday.
Police have begun an investigation but no arrests have been made.
Police were called to the league fixture between Sheffield Alliance and Bradford's Shimla club as other players rushed to Lowson's defence.
Witnesses said members of Shimla, who were the fielding side, then left in a minibus.
Cricket officials, including former Test umpire Dickie Bird, have condemned the attack, branding it "against the spirit of a gentleman's sport".
