The Indian team survived a huge scare ahead of their T20 World Cup semi-final against England as captain Rohit Sharma was struck on the forearm while batting in the nets in Adelaide on Tuesday but it did not turn out to be a serious injury and he resumed batting after some icing.
Rohit sustained a powerful blow when he faced team's throwdown expert S Raghavendra at the Adelaide Oval as a short ball bounced steeply after pitching and hit his right forearm.
Rohit, who missed the pull shot, was seen in a lot of pain as the physio attended to his session, forcing him to stop his batting practice abruptly.
A big ice pack was tied to his right arm as Rohit looked in considerable pain. He took some time off watching the training session from a distance, while mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton also had a chat with him.
After a small break, Rohit resumed his training but the throwdowns were not that fast and the Indian captain resorted to playing defensive shots.
Sources said the blow is not serious and Rohit should be fit to play against England in the semis on Thursday.
"He didn't feel much discomfort when he batted for the second time. CT scan or x-ray might not be needed. Also we have one day in the middle which is also optional session. It doesn't look serious as of now," a source told PTI.
Rohit is trying to master the pull shot, expecting to face a lot of short balls from the England pace battery.
In the T20 World Cup, Rohit has been dismissed playing the pull shot against Zimbabwe and South Africa while against Bangladesh, he was dropped at deep square leg, hitting pacer Taskin Ahmed straight to the fielder, who put down the catch.
Rohit also fell a times to pull shot during the tour of England last year.
India will take on England in the second semi-final on Thursday, while Pakistan and New Zealand will lock horns in first semis in Sydney on Wednesday.
